Welcome to the Gallery Effects Sampler! This Sampler gives you the opportunity to experiment first hand with the Mosaic filter, one of the 16 Gallery Effects filters included in Gallery Effects Volume I: Classic Art.
WHAT IS ALDUS GALLERY EFFECTS?
Aldus Gallery Effects is a collection of artistic and special effect filters that can be applied to color, gray-scale, and black-and-white scanned or original bitmap graphics to transform them into sophisticated, painting-like artistic images. With Gallery Effects anyone can produce vivid, dramatic art easily, quickly, and consistently.
Gallery Effects, Volume 1: Classic Art contains 16 artistic effects designed to recreate a classic art style: Charcoal, Chalk & Charcoal, Dry Brush, Fresco, Emboss, Poster Edges, Film Grain, Ripple, Dark Strokes, Spatter, Smudge Stick, Chrome, Mosaic, Craquelure, Watercolor, and Graphic Pen. Each effect can be customized for dozens of variations. Up to 25 settings per effect may be saved for future use.
The sophistication and power of the effects will satisfy the demanding requirements of graphic design professionals, while those who aren't skilled artists will also appreciate their ease of use and automation.
Using the effects is remarkably easy. Simply open a bitmapped graphic, choose the desired artistic effect and then click a button to apply the effect to the image. Thumbnail views of the image let you preview the effect before applying it, saving you time and expanding your creativity by encouraging experimentation.
APPLICATION, DESK ACCESSORY, AND ANIMATOR
The Gallery Effects filters can be used with the Gallery Effects application and desk accessory. Each allows you to preview, crop and open graphics images in both PICT (up to 32-bit) and TIFF (up to 24-bit) formats. You can then preview the effect you want, customize it, apply it to the image, and then save and print the results. The Gallery Effects desk accessory provides convenient access to the effects while using other programs.
The Gallery Effects Animator lets you apply the effects to multiple PICT files or to some or all the frames of a PICS animation file. Gallery Effects also includes an external command (XCMD) that permits you to access the effects from your Aldus SuperCard® projects or HyperCard® 2.0 stacks.
INTEGRATION WITH OTHER PROGRAMS
Artists and designers can apply the effects directly while working within leading Macintosh graphics programs, including Aldus SuperPaint® 3.0, Aldus® Digital Darkroom™, Adobe® Photoshop®, Letraset ColorStudio® 1.5, Oasis™1.1, PixelPaint Professional™ 2.0, Fractal Design Painter™ and other programs that use Photoshop plug-in filters.
EXTENDING THE CAPABILITIES OF YOUR GRAPHICS PROGRAM
With the addition of Aldus Gallery Effects to your favorite graphics program, you can transform scanned and bitmapped images into impressive artistic images in less time than it takes paint to dry.

ABOUT THE MOSAIC EFFECT
The Mosaic effect transforms an image so that it appears as if it were made of small chips or tiles laid down on a flat surface. The “tiles” appear to be lit from the side, enhancing their texture. The Mosaic effect has controls for adjusting the “tile” size and space between the “tiles.”

SUGGESTION ON USING THE MOSAIC EFFECT WITH SUPERPAINT
Try making textures with images that you apply the Mosaic effect to. To do so, select an image in the Paint layer and apply the Mosaic effect to it. With the image still selected, choose "Selection to Texture " from the File menu and save the texture.
